Medical drugs

There are some drugs used in medicine which are illegal otherwise and which are included in drug drive legislation:

  • Morphine
  • Diamorphine
  • Methadone

  • Flunitazepam
  • Diazepam
  • Lorazepam

Prescription drugs

Prescription drugs can affect your ability to drive and decision making capabilities which could make you unfit to drive a vehicle. Do not drive a vehicle whilst on prescription drugs until you know the effects it has on you. You should seek advice from your doctor as to your safety to drive whilst on prescriptions drug.

Prescription drug limits

The legislation sets limits for drug blood levels for prescription drugs. Some of the limits for prescription drugs are:

  • Morphine 80 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Methadone 500 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Diazepam 550 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Clonazepam 50 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Flunitrazepam 300 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Lorazepam 100 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Oxazepam 300 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Temazepam 1000 microgram per 1 litre of blood

 

Illegal drugs drive limits

Some of the limits for illegal drugs are:

  • Cocaine 10 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Cannabis 2 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • LSD 1 micrograms per 1 litre  of blood
  • Ketamine 20 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Ecstasy/MDMA 10 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Heroin &Diamorphine 5 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
  • Methylamphetamine 10 micrograms per 1 litre of blood
